How to Get Rid of Scratches on Your Hardwood Floor! Do it Yourself!
Hardwood floors are very beautiful, classy as well as very durable and can increase the value of a home. The problem is that they are as susceptible to getting damaged, just like any other type of flooring.
One of the most common damages that can and does occur with hardwood flooring is ugly eyesore scratches. It is possible that many of these hardwood floor scratches are very superficial and light- not very deeply etched into the wood and therefore they may only require that you thoroughly clean and then strip off any wax from the surface.
To remove wax off of the floor, take half a cup of ammonia with a gallon of lukewarm water in a bucket. Use this solution to mop the floor with, going over the entire floor slowly and thoroughly for the best of results. After the floor is completely saturated, allow it to sit wet for about ten to fifteen minutes before proceeding. This will result in the wax being completely absorbed by the solution dissolved. The ammonia will eat away through the buildup of the wax. After waiting then simply
mop the floor dry.
Now that the wax is gone it is time to inspect the entire floor for any remaining scratches. If there are no scratches visible any longer then that means that you are lucky! It means that the scratches were superficial and in the wax coating itself, not the wood of the floor.
In this case it will now be safe for you to apply a new layer of wax to your floor and that will be the end of it.
On the other hand, if you have scratches that are still there and are deeper then the wax surface- if it is actually scratched into the wood itself then there are further actions that you can take to repair the damage, so don't rush out and buy a whole new floor just yet!
This problem can be remedied by removal of the damaged wood plank and sanding it down to strip any and all residue from the wood and smoothing out of the scratch. You can either rent an electric hand sander or buy one if you think it will come in handy again later on. They are relatively inexpensive to purchase- at least less expensive than an entire new floor!
Sand down the damaged wood piece thoroughly until you can not see or even feel the scratch when running your finger over the area. The surface after sanding should be flat and smooth. Next, simply replace the wood board plank where it belongs and viola`!
Keeping a hardwood floor in great condition is really quite simple with regular inspecting and cleaning. If you seal the wood floor with a sealant after cleaning it, it will help to keep your floor flawless and smooth!
